The American people were filled with democratic ideals in the past when they dreamed of building a nation of the people,by the people and for the people. As time went by,the people got hoodwinked by the politicians empty promises and chose a government that saw wealth concentrated in the hands of one percent and 99% struggling to eke a decent living,with unaffordable public health ,rising crime rate and widespread homelessness in pockets of wealth. Increasingly the people got stripped of so called freedoms from freedom of peaceful assembly,freedom of expression,freedom from discrimination and so on.As it descended into an autocracy,the people woke up and are fighting back.Each part of the separation of powers has to be strong to uphold democracy whether its the legislative,executive or judiciary including the fifth estate the mass media. As said power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.
