Just viewed k pop movie Typhoon -a creative story on asylum seekers and the illusion of the grass is greener on the other side.Creative in cinematography and dialogue.
    Korean creative industries have been nurtured to maintain its unique identity without jumping on the bandwagon except for those serialised movie of time travellers n sob stories but otherwise their movies have more grit and guts.Japanese movies used to have that individualism until they started to be crowd pleasers and the same old formulaic approach set in.
       But the Malaysian movie "Shuttle Life" that I viewed doesn't have that pat old approach nor attempt to tie up loose ends-very much like Internal monologue of Virginia Woolf-the stream of consciousness method where many things are left unsaid and that which is left unsaid speaks volumes-how did the mother become mentally ill,why is Hui Shan the daughter not her flesh and blood and why did the son decide to drive the hit and run vehicle?So many questions for audience to figure out but from the ability of audience to empathasize with the predicament of the mood of the actors and actresses,their options are limited.

Most people follow the expectations of what constitutes a good child,a good parent or a good employee in society but this movie buckles the trend.It's like the Malaysian movie Kid from Big Apple or Hu Yao Gang Until the end of Daybreak the social realism of these movies exploits our unique Malaysian cultural chameleon quality to move beyond cultural constraints of identity.The govt effort to set up a cinematic arts course in MMU has created talented artistes from Liew Sing Tat to Tan Chui Mui.Looking forward to new young talents excitedly in years to come.Viva La Difference

quiet heroes

In some dank and dim corner of the globe,there are many ordinary people going about their work quietly.These unsung heroes are not on the radar of news buzzfeed but in carrying out the chores that makes our lives safe and comfortable,these unsung heroes are caring for the sick in hospitals,repairing electrical wiring torn down by strong storms,clearing debris from disasters zones,monitoring flight paths from airport control towers.They will not be in the limelight but their work makes a significant impact in the smooth running of our lives
    In our hectic lives,we should give thanks to these anonymous quiet heroes.We hero worship the athlete or entertainer but have forgotten these cogs in the wheel that keep the world running.

Hope beats forever in hearts of men

Feel young when how  I see how young people are not afraid to fail or try new things.
When they make experimental short movies,they throw their heart and soul into scriptwriting,learning cinematography techniques or computer software.
  From two student projects ,I've garnered two messages they project that "don't be a prisoner of fear" and "change is self driven." They are fearless in trying things they have never done before and always willing to face changes head on.i need to learn from them as I 'm afraid of making a laughing stock of myself so when Jun told me he plans to be the main vocalist of a band in Thailand,my eyes popped out.But the young are not afraid of trying.I marvel how he learned to repair mechanical watches by reading technical manuals and watching You tube videos,he repaired his Oris mechanical watch through trial and error and buying a Seiko watch and stripping the parts.
      Life long learning is a prerequisite to keeping us mentally active and a reason to spark enthusiasm in jaded souls.Think I may be able to form an acapella choir!!!!
    

class of 2017 chases away monday blues

I felt so moody on Monday as the bird has flown away from my nest but my class of 17 sparked my laughter as I felt humbled by their appreciative thoughtful farewell gesture.
    To add the feather to my cap,I think the chicken has donated one of her feather to the pair of earrings they gave me.So very sweet students make my DAY- they call me mama chan and not mama san which is a world of difference in meaning.We had lots of laughter and jokes in class and I felt their heartwarming messages.I now have a big brood of children under my wings- good vibes

Four -legged friend

The black and brown tabby at Mirth Sathorn is such a frisky kitten.Kenui is always running after other cats and when I'm nodding off at the sofa,she jumps on the sofa and licks my leg to entice me to play with her.Her purr is so pathetic that I  just hug her and then chase her around in her hide and seek games.I just bought her a toy chicken with feathers and a rattling ball.Can't wait to see her jump with joy.

The world will be a happier place if we make laugh more.At the very least it won't end in  a population explosion.

Slumber

Writing is such hard work as we are emotionally exhausted when we delve into the psyche of the characters we create and try to reimagine their emotional and mental frame of mind.
It is a form of catharsis but channeling our emotions and transforming into the body of our characters need us to get into their minds and hearts.
  Sometimes being so caught up with the characters,we are haunted by the past,the vulnerability of the characters,their darkest fears and pain.
   When I went to Wat Lam Phong to seek the blessings of the bhikku for the rest of 2017,he asked Jun what I wish for and when Jun translated it,he chuckled and chanted some prayers.
    Are you sure? he asked as I nodded. The simpler the expectations we have in Life,the more contentment. All I want is  peaceful sleep at night. No need to strike a lottery,a rich husband or a new big car and house, an A star exam result,everlasting youth and perfect health .Just a good night's sleep without being haunted by the past. Just a good slumber.
      Sleep is like death when we lose awareness of the present surroundings to enter another level of sub consciousness and reborn the next day.sometimes we bring back what we have experienced to the next day and sometimes no matter how hard i racked my brain,i can't recall a single episode in the dream.
