 Divorce among Japanese retired couples have shot up by 300% compared to the generation before.the workaholic culture and social life of salaried company men meant they spent more time at work and socializing after work than with the wife and childten.so when the men retired,the wives cant stand being a servant to a big baby and their separate lives make him practically a stranger to spouse and child.

Now when divorced wives can legally claim half of her husbands pension,she would rather get her freedom rather than suffer in silence.

In most cases,the children would have grown up and could emotionally handle the split.there is less social stigma of divorcees and the women would havs built up her own network of support in her housewife days compated to men who will face loss of face and lack of emotional support and feelings of worthlessness.
