Second day of new year.

Jun asked why i stocked up fridge with so much meat n vegetables and i told him for one meal we eat 6 to 8 dishes but this year i lessen to 3 to 6 dishes.it will last 2 weeks until 15th day of new year or chap goh mei.the seven day or yan yat is another big feast and so is 15th day.now half the meat is gone after reunion dinner and eve of reunion.i planned for 2 weeks and today no more eggs as i had baked cakes.no grocery shop from KK mart,99 speedmart,Megah herbs is open.luckily the mini mart in my condo still open by foreign workers and i bought 20 eggs.i make cawan mushi,portugese egg tart n cakes n french toast. dinner is waxed meat claypot rice.i use basmati ponggal herbal rice as its fine grain.put shao xing wine,sesame oil n sprinkle with spring onion.its a feast for once a year.i cooked cantonese white cut chicken with ginger scallion n chilli sauce n a favourite cantonese classic soup of old chicken,watercress,peanuts,dried oysters n old ginseng root.it took 4 hours to simmer until its old flame or lau fo.the grocery shop owner knows im fussy customer.one time he sold dried peanuts that were old stock and hard as stones altho i boil 4 hours.i scolded him.then he sold dried bean curd sheet that were so tough like plastic and spoiled my vegetarian buddhas horror.i threatened never to patronise his shop.now he quickly changes to new stock for me.ive patronise local shops from time mom was alive n they recognised me and my son.now hes an old man and his son and daughter in law took over his business n he just chats with old customers like me.i like personalised services where he takes time to explain difference between japanese and chinese mushrooms or the best type of chlli sauce for fried food like lingams n kampung koh.
