Malaysian movie Raintown

 The movie Raintown has a Malay producer,director n scriptwriter but the movie revolves around a Chinese Eurasian family and the children who grow up with a control freak father and his long suffering Eurasian wife.The movie sees the cast converse in a mix of English n Cantonese.I would say the movie is a multiracial production with Malays,Chinese n Indians.

Overall the plot is like an indie movie without the melodramatic twist and turn of Abang Adik.It portrays the attitude and values of a conservative Chinese family that values face and dictates the career choices of his children to the extent it causes tension and conflict.the mother was well acted by a seasoned actress Susan Lancaster and her subtle depiction of her anguish and disappointment shows her superb acting skill that is the saving grace of the movie

Honestly ,the acting skills of the three children n the father is a let down as it's sub par and the mother outshines the whole cast of characters.jun said the children are singers and models and their emotionless facial expressions show they are greenhorns in acting.

If you look at the mainland China actor Xu Kai who started out as a model.He should have kept to it instead of going into acting.he gained fame playing Fuca Fu Heng in the serial Yanxi Palace and it's because of the well written script that he shot to fame.He can't match the acting prowess of fellow actors like Ge You or Hu Ge.I feel TVB has a comprehensive training for it's mentees as they are good at singing,dancing and acting.look at Wallace Chung and William Chan.They are equally good at acting,singing n dancing.but K pop concentrate on singing n dancing as seen in the fame of Jackson Wang but I think he will fail as an actor no matter how good his voice is.
