Low quality fresh food
On a tight budget,i buy discounted fish nearing expiry date.it was a huge mistake because the sting ray meat smelt awful n starting to rot.i dumped.it into the trash as it would cause food poisoning to us or the cat who is a picky eater
i bought a whole old chicken at NSK mart for rm 9.i cooked ayam pong teh with it.Jun declared it as horrible n gross dinner as the old cockerel was tough.the meat was tough not tender after braising.tbe skin was chewy like rubber and had small feathers stuck to it.real gross to buy low quality chicken as its inedible.
being frugal i shredded the meat to cook braised noodles with meat.balls as the sauce was delicious.old hens can only be used to boil lotus soup with red dates.
i felt guilty buying inferior meat.to feed my family.to compensate i cooked Juns favourite dishes like deep fried chicken coated with salted egg yolk sauce,bird eyes chilli n coriander leaves.i also cooked his favourite green loofah squash in egg sauce with black fungus n shrimps.the last is braised pumpkin with meat balls,fuzhou fish balls and liver sausages.hope it will compensate for a terrible meal.
for tea time i went to Ah Cheng laksa to eat ice kacang or ABC and fried keropok lekur.i dont fancy Korean shaved ice bingsu or japanese snowy ice.Ais kacang is best as it has rose syrup,evaporated milk,palm sugar.buried under is treasure like peanuts, red beans,black jelly,sweet corn,green cendol and even some cases sugar palm attap seeds.dig in to enjoy
