Pak Sako

Pak Sako was one of the early founders of Utusan Melayu during the pre World War Two era.Fired by the spirit of nationalism,These early Malay fighters for independence from British colonialism and Japanese occupation were vocal with their views. i bought Pak Sakos novel Anak Mat Lela Gila a long time ago.i wondered if it was influenced by Lu Xuns A diary of A Mad man.But its like the outsider in a sane society sees issues more clearly than the insiders as he is more detached than the actors and as hes not emotionally involved. What social critique did pak sako make commenting on the propensity to focus on trivialities and rumour mongers. So to plead insanity ,one can get away from conforming to the societal norms. Why does the protaganist adopt and take care of an abandoned baby he named Bulat. its pak sakos third classification of insanity that is insightful.what the majority condemns is mad is deemed true as the logic of the crowd is infallible.just like how people judge if the food in a new restaurant is good by looking at the crowd of diners there. so just follow the crowd as the majority cant go wrong. Its this herd mentality that is so dangerous as Hitler uses propaganda to whip up emotional sentiments and the crowd blindly followed. To judge someone based on the court of public opinion gives rise to harrassment and victimization of the otherness in society. it is how some people tarnish the teputation of a person not based on facts and evidence but based on allegations and innuendo.in the past, people write surat layang or anonymous poison pen letters and circulate it to slander a person.but in the modern era, with rise of social media networks, fake news is viralised in seconds.thats why it shows the susceptibility of people who dont understand logical fallacies to fall under the charms of so called social influencers and key opinion leaders who amass huge followers to make big money whether its to flaunt their wealth or their feel good lifestyle and make themselves the envy of lesser mortals who are stuck with boring jobs and stressful lifestyle. to conform is to follow the crowd but this doesnt make societal norms the morally right action as collective will of peer pressure undermines an individuals freedom and right to think differently it will see the powerful override the powerless, the rich usurp the plight of the poor and the adage that might has right

Timeless creativity

im so excited to read in the Star about the creative pursuits of a director in his
80s and a musical composer in his 70s working together to compose a musical opera in English.wow i cant wait to watch a musical Solace in Papan on the life of Sybil Karthigasu a marytr in the second world war who inspired Chin San Sooi after reading her novel No dram of Mercy in 1957 way before i was born yet.so She is a Malaysian patriot that history books have forgotten like Pak Samad Ismail or Ahmad Boestamann.so a musical in Sybils memory is a fitting tribute to her sacrifice.wow being so active in the golden years is so admirable.gives me hope that i can still sing and paint. i like Chin San Soois directing of the monologue Emily of Emerald Hill.i watched the soliloguy performed by Pearly Chua
as a Nyonya matriarch dressed in her sarung kebaya and set in a peranakan decorated restaurant like the Old China Cafe in Chinatown Petaling Street narrating the family feuds and loss of her son in a solo drama.Pearly Chua is a veteran theatre actress.Old China Cafe should introduce live theatre in their restaurants or dondang sayang songs with tea dances of joget and i will definitely dance there.now Jao Tim in Chinatown was where i could enjoy old jazz ballads live music if the chinese opera dramatic association opens up live opera performances there it will draw in tourists who will pay to attend. i really hope some generous sponsor will do CSR by sponsoring San Soois musical on the life of Sybil Kathigasu maybe some towkay from Perak or Air Asia.it will revive history of Papans small town n the dispensary of the Kathigasu.

Recycle excess food

ive been brought up never to waste food by my frugal mom.so when i steamed too much sticky glutinous rice to make chinese loh mai kai or chicken sticky rice,i searched the net to make malay kuih the pulut sambal serunding udang or dried crispy. chili shrimp wrapped in banana leaves.when i ran out of leaves ,i made Japanese onigiri rice balls with shredded nori sheei, bonito flakes n toasted sesame seeds.its gonna be Asian breakfast cakes which are non gluten.

Petaling street

so much fun dancing zumba to Malay songs.then we had pot luck breakfast after zumba at the park to celebrate Muslims Eid festival. After that zumba mate and i went to Petaling street to explore cafes n street food.there was a long queue at old school Bunn Cheong to eat dim sum and the famous egg tart.no thanks to stand up 30 mins to get a table. so we explore the indian temple ,went past famous roast duck cart and lai fong lala soup noodle and then i bought a uniquely shaped chinese fan to do fan painting.we ate taro cake at pik wah cafe, then went to browse at book xccess at Rex KL before eating. delicious fusion bao at Da Bao.we tried soft shell crab bao and bao with vanilla ice cream with pineaaple compote n bunga kantan.very unique fusion food. for sunday dinner i cooked favourite dim sum dish loh mai kai glutinous sticky rice with chicken breast, dried shrimp, chinese liver sausage, shitake mushroom fishball and
spring onion.the all time comfort food .

Heat affects kitty

the hot and humid weather makes kitty lose appetite to eat.even his favourite treats dont interest him.he drinks a lot but lacks energy to play n sleeps a lot.im praying he doesnt fall sick.tonite i tempt him with salmon mousse but he isnt keen.please keep kitty in good health as hes so listless.i miss the frisky cat.

Another case of Assuntarians who give rather than get

The late Sister Enda must be like a proud Mother who sees her grown up children giving back to the society. She practises inclusive education as i remember how on certain events, she would hold brief extracted readings from the holy texts of all religions like Hindu texts, the Quran,The buddhist dhammapada and the bible. She taught us to respect the universal values taught in all religions.so she must be proud at how her girls rose to contribute to Malaysia from Zeti Aziz,Dr Jemilah,Dr Hartini of Yayasan Chow Kit,Nurul Izzah and Maria Chin Abdullah.but i found a pleasant surprise when i saw a video by the alumni on Youtube that the public intellectual Martin Jacques wife a Malaysian Indian lawyer who passed away in Hong Kong was also a. ex Assuntarian and to honour her a trust fund was created the Harinder Kaur Veriah fund for Assuntarians who come from poor families with allowance for tuition, school fees, unforms n shoes all paid by the trust fund. What a good legacy to enable young girls to have a good education.Sister Enda would be happy to know her effort to instill love, kindness and charity lives on in the many generations of Assuntarians both past and present.Thankful our seniors contributed so we could have a brass band, good quality sports equipment for the gym,art equipment and library books.its the same values on importance of education that prompted the early Chinese immigrants to build schools, funeral parlours and hospitals for the disadvantaged.

The landscape of Malaysia.

browsing through the art book i borrowed from the library,i fell in love with the kampung scenes of villages, huts on stilts, fishing boats and tall coconut trees.the book has a collection of watercolour paintings by Malaysian artists of the Malaysian watercolour organization. it makes me wanna stay in a
village following a slow, leisurely pace of life. im thinking of following zumba mates on a short trip to Taiping, kuala sepetang n gunung jerai so that i can capture beautiful scenic spots for me to paint like what the urban sketchers of kl are doing. i did a pencil sketch of the iconic sultan abdul samad moorish building as it is a heritage building built in 1901 but sad to know its falling to pieces as the dome and spire has collapsed.the building is historical n should be preserved as much as the colonial railway station.turn them into hotels so that its unique for travellers to stay like the E&O hotel in Penang n Raffles hotel in Singapore. today i baked another keto bread with coconut flour,6 eggs n corn oil with mixed fruit peel in it.its gluten free and much healthier than commercial white bread.Jun finished 2 banana cherry pies n a banana peanut butter loaf of bread in 2 weeks.i love baking as it rained heavily for 2 days and cool the air so im not hot and sticky.

Naughty kitty

Frisky cat is really naughty n curious.when a sun
bird flew around my pots of flowering plants,he jumped up and down trying to shoo it away.then while i was napping on the sofa,i left my bedroom door slightly open.the rascal squeezed thro the gap and entered the forbidden zone, rushed to the toilet where i saw wet cat pawprint ,smart to pull open the set of drawers and pulled out my socks and beaded jewels to play n i saw him lazing on my white bed sheet so i had to change bedsheets n mop the rooms.how to discipline a curious cat who wreaks havoc in the house.

Chinese Malay food

for lunch reheat frozen dim sum or bao.dinner i. used leftover nasi kunyit to cook tumeric rice seafood porridge.very smooth, spicy n tasty.i added clove, minced lemon grass, chicken stock to reboil porridge with fresh shrmps n the leftover grilled stingray i deboned the flesh, added salted egg mashed up,spring onion.a dash of thick coconut milk.its better than using beef bubur lambuk as the prawns cooked in shell is so sweet.created a malay dish with chinese ingredients next time i put salted preserved vegetable ham choy to add a kick and fried serunding.

Hard to find non fiction

its so hard to find some non fiction books. im looking for Naomi kleins book on the environmental crisis n Noam Chomskys books on language learning.no luck.i went to a bookshop and found Jared Diamonds book Upheaval on crisis and change but the price is too high.so im looking at second hand book shops.i found a gem yesterday a book published in 1997 called how the mind works by Steven Pinker but the book seller jack up price to rm100.too costly.thank goodness for john Brockmans of edge org the editor of the third culture who publish interviews n insights by top public intellectuals n thinkers in the Western world from scientists to artists.i get my book fix from these open source of knowledge as the cost of ignorance is regressive and oppresive. Naomi Kliens book this changes eveything the case of capitalism vs climate change really intrigues me how the neoliberal system and environmental destruction is corelated.i feel population explosion is harbinger of environmental damage as mechanisation of agricuture, use of chemicals to increase yields and sheer need for construction of cities to house massive population and adoption of scientific technology like nuclear plants cause damage to the environment.of course overconsumption of resources is part of the problem as there is enough for all our need but not all our greed as Gandhi advised. im dying of curiousity to read jared diamonds book Upheaval how to respond to crisis and changes in which certain international cooperation is crucial to combat environmental crisis like the global convention on pollution of marine waterways by international shipping. i wish there is a whats app group of book lovers i can go to to exchange books to read instead of buying them, incurring costs and lack of storage space im thinking of buying boxes to store books under my bed. im happy that popular book fair has some quirky translated Japanese fiction writers like mieko kawakamis Breast and Eggs.but im looking for southeast asian writers this year and im so disappointed no vietnamese or myanmar writers on sale locally. thinking on climate change, what is the effect of climate change on food security? did the global warming of seas cause explosion of algae bloom that infected our shellfish with neurotoxins. Is the increase in dengue cases due to explosion of mosquito breeding due to watmer temperature?will food production like rice, vegetable n animal husbandry be impacted by rise in flooding and seawater leaching into fertile land.will pollution reduce accessibility to fishing resource s.will we have to eat insect burgher soon? will cases of skin cancer increase when ozone layer is damaged

How is the defence against terrorism?

Look at how terrorists can breach the intelligence of Russia n commmit a massacre during a concert? How well prepared is our defences as the piracy attacks on Lahad Datu in Sabah shows the authorities underestimate the abilities of terrorist to attack the public It might range from sophisticated weapons to even ramming a vehicle into crowds.it could range from releasing toxic gases in subways like how the authorities in Singapore educates public to be alert to suspicious luggage left unattended in public areas to extra precaution at hotels n concert venues yes a few gunshots were fired in kl international airport terminal 1 and a person seriously injured and it was a personal feud but they miss the point.how the heck can public security be so lax that a man can enter the arrival hall with his gun undetected. An intelligent urban terrorist would be smart enough to do reconnaisance groundwork to pinpoint the breach in security in our international airport .so scary as any place of mass public traffic is susceptible as Bangkok lapse has demonstrated lax security. How is it possible for an israel agent able to buy guns from a Malaysian middleman? Didnt a citizen of North Korea get assasinated at the KLIA airport some years ago.where are security scanners at entrance n exit of KLIA or sniffer dogs on patrol for drugs or bombs congrats police for nabbing suspect with gun.its good as public feel safer without risk of mass killing as in the australian mall where 6 bystangers were killed by a mentally sick man.good also cops didnt fire in enclosed KLIA or more bystanders may be injured.nowadays where lives of innocent people are at risk, public security comes first. < b>

It's raining cats and dogs!Fat hope or Slim chance

Corgis are intelligent dogs and very loving n obedient too.i visit the petshop to see a favourite pet family Jack the corgi.During the long public holidays,Jack the corgi stays at the cashiers home n is pampered. The employees know i love him and ask Jack if he wanna follow me home.but my rascal tiger cat Captain is insanely bite happy n territorial to the max.the last time at the vets office ,he bullied a small lap dog poodle by trying to swipe his nose that poor doggy was terrified.the poodles owner call Captain an evil cat.hes so frisky that my leather chair has long scatch marks n holes.maybe time for captain to wear cat socks. yipee my wishes came true.its raining cats and dogs this late afternoon.i love the sound n smell of rain. my plants love rain too
