Lunch n dinner
for lunch i cooked mee mamak goreng an indian muslim fried noodle using kicap manis,sambal,taucheo,tomato sauce n sweet chilli sauce with bean sprouts,hard taufu,fishball n vege.a fruit salad and a honey sea coconut drink with snow pear cubes,lotus seeds n red dates.
for dinner i cooked classic malay nasi lemak .coconut milk briyani rice cooked with screwpine leaves,onion anchovy sambal,acar pickled vegetable and a dry chicken rendang cooked witb kerisik,kefir lime and tumeric leavescoconut milk and spices. i learn the rendang curry chicken recipe from my malay canteen chef coz i observe her cooking n ask her for recipe.
i always ask my cookery teacher from Penang to teach me how to cook nyonya food like perut ikan curry,acar or kerabu bok nee.i also learned from my muslim colleagues in johor to cook johor laksa with spaghetti and fried pucuk paku or fiddlehead fern with sambal udang or shrimps.from my sikh colleague i learn indian curry using tomato puree and no coconut milk and spices.so having a diverse multi ethnic staff helps us bond over food.unlike now government offices from the police to schools are mono ethnic as are petrol stations,glc linked companies and certain banks.so when they dont mingle with other races,whether in school,sports,residential areas or workplace,the result is mistrust and xenophobia and racism.the politicians aim to divide and rule is causing increase polarization in society.
