Batik baik

Its good to promote local batik by designating batik attire day. The late  Datin seri Endon had been a passionate promoter of batik Malaysia and Nowadays people associate batik with a Malaysian product but thats a misconception.

BATIK is a process of using wax resistant dye to

draw designs on textile. This technique is found to be used by minority ethnic tribes in Yunnan

and Guizhou in Southern China.Batik design fabrics are found in Ghana and Nigeria in Africa and i even saw some in Sri Lanka.

The cultural aspect comes in the motifs and colour used.Indonesia batik has intricate designs and muted colours but Malaysia batik has floral designs which are colorful n vibrant.

Fashion designers who use contemporary designs in batik textile can help to appeal to young people.i bought a pair of lyra stretchable yoga pants in bright green floral batik design. Young people may prefer muted batik designs in black, blue or brown with geometric shapes.i bought a Mayfair designed qipao using a blue n  pink batik  floral motif and a blue linen jacket with frog button n mandarin collar in geometric

designs. from Yunnan 25 years ago.

Now i find Malaysian fashion designer Tino Soons batik designed clothes really unique and modern.the red tunic is monochrome with stylised motifs of japanese waves and koi and modern in design so that teenagers will like it.i prefer the dragon batik saromg with the white blouse or shirt which has unisex appeal. Now when Jun wore the blue satin batik shirt i bought for him for a college presentation, his pals teased him calling him Datuk or honorific respectable title for old men.im glad there are now muted geometric motifs

in body fitting design for young men that he can wear with jeans.
I wouldnt mind learning from a mastercraftsman how to do batik printmaking but the problematic arthritic fingers may make holding the wax painting mould difficult to control.maybe we can modernise batik motifs and design.Malaysian colourful vibrant batik designs come from Indian and African influence.now if picasso cubism is applied to batik motifs that would be cool .a west meets east approach or pointilism of the impressionist.i can draw on paper but the effect of wax on fabric would have a different effect from pen to paper.how about a tie dye with calligraphic effect.
