Parents came from the pre second world war generation who went through food shortage and hunger.they had rice ration and survived in eating tapioca ,sweet potato leaves or catching river snails n tilapia for food.
We were taught not to waste food.mom recycled leftover chicken breast from boiled soup to make chicken floss so ive been trained not to waste food.our indonesian maid came from padi farmers in jawa and advised jun n nephews to eat each grain of rice as they represented the blood, sweat and tears of paddy farmers who toiled to grow food.
The other day i was appalled to see a Chinese family over order food at the coffee shop.the plate of wantan mee was abandoned after two bites and the plate of fried kway teow after three spoonfuls.the myanmar waiter clearing the table shook his head ,banyak makanan buang saja.so much food is thrown away.
I cant stand waste of food.the other day a couple siitting next to me left two curry puffs uneaten after they took one and felt it wasnt tasty.when they left,i gobbled up the remainder two uneaten puffs
Food security will be a challenge for governments.stockpile of food has limited shelflife.with war causing shortage in wheat supplies and drought make India ban export of rice, shortage of food staples may cause social unrest and world hunger.are govts ptepared to handle climate change, floods and food shortages besides the risk of another pandemic causing logistic shutdown.
