Nostalgia comfort food
there is nostalgia in the good old days when life was simpler and community ties were stronger.went for white coffee and pastry at kaw kaw pak kopi to see the hype about traditional pastry which has seen a revival.used to be fung wong confectionary in petaling street was the go to place for traditional biscuits for marriage like lotus paste with salted egg yolk or red bean paste or green bean paste with century egg n preserved ginger
the revival of traditional style kopi tiam pastry with freshly baked egg tart, coconut tart or siew bao
i had a cham ice drink which is mixed coffee and tea,a green bean paste bun n toast bread with kaya butter.the deco was old school charm.pastry not as good as tong kee pastry but ambience was cool.like hong kong char chan tang.
i wish the f and b business in chinatown was more daring.they could collaborate with chinese ink wash artists to conduct classes for enthusiasts.put in a package of food and cultural activity or a dinner and classical opera show and a class on how to apply opera face painting or even a teochew puppet show with dinner included.collaboration is a win win to preserve traditional arts and draw in younger crowd.even traditional malay dances like zapin and ronggeng can be taught by aswara to live band music.just wish our ministry of art and culture were more innovative.
