Spring festival

Its the time of year when we are busy spring cleaning for the coming lunar year.Tiring washing linen, cleaning cobwebs, and decluttering.looking forward to traditional feasting of cantonese food.

Its been great to start the new year with a short break in Singapore to visit siblings and relatives.

My cousin's maid cooked the best cantonese steam fish, white cut chicken and wa

tercress soup. She even made chicken rendang and awesome sambal belacan and scallion ginger paste which she gifted me to bring home.I gifted her a pashima shawl for her hospitality

I had a stunning nite view of Marina Sands Bay waterfront by watching a  musical fountain and light display that projected fish and birds flying on the water mist screen. It was magical and breathtaking to view

I also went to pay my last respect to my late uncle who passed away last year but i couldnt attend his wake as i caught Covid and was under isolation. My late uncle was a teacher and a life long learner. He went back to study in the  US in his middle age after bringing up three children. He gave me the most precious memory of a happy childhood. The other uncles were the typical Asian males who were business focused but third uncle was caring and put a lot of effort and time to take us on picnics, trips to the waterfall, seaside, zoo and parks and taught us to swim every weekend at the public pool.A renaissance man he was well read, fun and active in sports and charity work, raising funds for the Metta welfare society in Singapore for decades.

Will 2024 be an auspicious year?  Hard to say when subsidy rationalisation will affect the cost of living of the middle class. We need to pay low value tax on goods bought online costing less than RM500.That will be a burden to us who try to get savings by buying daily necessities online.Even those who cant afford expensive medical treatment and opt for TCM will be taxed by increase in SST of 8%.Now talk is of water and electricity tariff hike. How can we survive when income cant keep up with rising cost?
