Cantonese
im glad the south china morning posg columnist is keeping cantonese alive.
cantonese uses many idioms that are different from mandarin.a word like ham sap or salty wet doesnt refer to food at all but a sex pervert with desire to molest.
you dont have such an idiom in Mandarin.
or take a look at tonal inflection of gao si.it could mean dog shit or in the distant past depending on the tone.it could mean to stir up trouble or teacher.its so fun to have word play with cantonese words.
the overseas cantonese speak in a thick rural dialect that makes it incomprehensible to standard cantonese speech
so its great that hong kong pop culture and soap operas keep the cantonese language alive .kwei gong lang or as pretty as a ghost.ham sap kwei or salty wet ghost.hong mo kwei or red hair ghost
