Cest La Vie
viewed some black and white photographs taken by the humanist photographer Sabine Weiss for the exhibition La Vie.im drawn by the eye of the photographer to the expressions of her subjects, the look of joy as a kid eats cotton candy, the stark play of light and shadow on a line of shoes in a display cabinet with the shadowy face of a man above it,the rise of steam from a pavement of a parisian cafe..she is a maestro who captures the nuances of human emotions and ambience of city life in black and white.she is diffetent from her painter husband Hugh Weiss with his modernist abstract paintings,so surrealist like the fusion of a cats head on top of a human face or an elephants trunk on a mans nose.how can a marriage of the realistic photographer and the surrealistic artist work?
