Import

Malaysia depends on food import to meet the needs of consumers.Being one of the worlds biggest producer of palm oil,why dont we diversify our agriculture to food production.the govt has to step in by offering tax breaks and educate farmers to increase efficiency in agriculture produce farming and offer technical training and assistance to farmers that face challenge of climate change, high cost of production like manual labour and fertiliser anf use of biotechnology.if China can grow durians in Hainan by investing in technology,we should be following suit as we import 12% of our agricultural needs from China.using biotechnology,Hainan has managed to shorten the fruiting of durian trees from 30 years to 10 years.

We should be investing in aquaculture too  as we have extensive coastlines.i just viewed a youtuber investing in shrimp farms in Guangdong and how they harvest shrimps evety 90 days.so research n development has to be done to help shrimp farmers produce fry instead of importing it and to manufacture our own pellet feed n help farmers combat viral and bacterial infection without heavy use of antibiotics.the abuse of antibiotics in poultry farmjng has led to loss of effectiveness of antibiotics to fight human diseases.

The chart shows our imported food.bill has skyrocketed from 2017 to 2021.
