Book mania

When i went to Book Excess to browse at titles, two books caught my eye.irresistible.the Ministry of Utmost Happiness as i flipped thro seemed to be like Tan Twan Engs complex characters set in historical context of struggles n conflict. The other is by the

Tibetan monk Matthieu Ricard on altruism.I bought them n couldnt wait to devour the food for thought.Ricard trained in cellular genetics left his career to be a buddhist monk.he is an active participant in scientific research on effects of meditation on the brain.

He reminds me of Ajarn Brahm, trained as astrophysicist and became a Theravada monk

But the next author im hunting for is Stephen Batchelor. He trained as a monk in Tibetan and Zen Buddhism, disrobed and went back to a layman life.i wanna read on what is secular Buddhism and how he research ancient Pali canon to find its relevance to modern day issues.i wonder if Pali canon looks at LGBT issue, corruption, ecology and robotic automation and the internet.

Buddhism without beliefs from the view of a western practitioner has been critically analysed by Bhikkhu Bodhi.hope to read Batchelors book as to understand bhikkhu Bodhis rebuttal .
