Emerging from cultural desert

i had booked tickets to view comedy court but unfortunately the covid lockdown dampened the fun at the theatre.with government support of the arts industry by setting up Cendana,i got excited by resumption of arts and culture revival in selangor.when i saw Jo Kukanthas performing in Damansara Performing Arts for 4 days,i quickly grabbed the chance to book tickets to this amazingly talented director, actor and producers show called "How to be Alone."she is one of the most talented actor in live theatre and im an ardent fan.the theme aligns with the theme of the book im reading on the lonely century by noreena hertz.whatever the reasons, not everyone living alone is lonely.contactless living is not just a function of technological advances, consumers craving for convenience or even the coronavirus imperative.way before covid 19 struck,we had been building a world of separateness and atomisation. so altho a technical glitch meant i cant log onto website to book tickets,i drove all the way to Box office and booked two tickets for tomorrows show.i havent watched live drama productions for two years,so im really looking forward to a locally written play.we have some talented playwrights and drama critics who deal with local issues like late Krishnan Jit,Kee Thuan Chye and Huzir Sulaiman .hopefully more plays will be staged this year.i feel there should restage the play we could #$@you Mr Birch and the swordfish and the concubine written by kee thuan chye, atomic jaya written by Huzir Sulaiman. and Gold rain and hailstones by Jit Murad.we also should commemorate the talented ,Faridah Merican and Alan Perrera in a festival of Malaysian theatre.
