Culture vulture

went explore the remake of Chinatown.the old Rex cinema has been redesigned as a trendy hipster hangout with cafes n bookshop.i love how the aesthetic of industrial chic is retained, raw materials, decaying peeling paintwork n walls stripped of paintwork.the art installation of the mountain of discarded clothes and a globe made from old clothing was a reminder of our wastage in overconsumption.the lighting pierced the gloomy interior to bring its stark beauty alive.kudos to the architects for the revival of heritage buildingjust saw wrong spelling of psycho.now wish they scan n computerise books on higher shelf. how the hell do i climb up to look at titles.the shelves should have automated robotic arm to pick up the books orbetter still ropes with abseiling down a steel platform for fitness freak to climb down cliffs of books.cool treasure hunt.now just wish somebody buy over hotel malaya and mandarin hotel and refurbish it to the 1960s style of boutique hotel.or furnish like studio units for yearly rent to professionals who work in city centre the studio units have gym, hair saloon, food court n swimming pool n sauna.good return on investment as serviced apartments for yearly rent. good for retirees too if have massage service and dental and medical clinic n nursing home services like physiotherapy rather than as hotel suites as its near lrt, banks, food stalls etc.my dad used to take the whole family to chinatown for the best dim sum in town when waitress push trolley of hot dim sum.the noisy atmosphete was overpowering.nostalgia for good old fashioned food like kingto pork ribs or eight treasure duck or lotus leaf rice.i wouldnt mind renting a studio unit near public transport and good restaurants n tung shin hospital nearby.excellent location for a high end retirement home if have good food, good shopping facility and good hospital and public transport.its a viable option that developers dont foresee for single professionals and silver hair retirees in the rental market.instead they ate overbuilding shopping malls and commercial shoplot causing a glut.with decline in mass tourism and rise of air b and b,huge hotels face dwindling demands. but working professionals prefer to rent as they often change jobs and prefer flexibility in living arrangements for easy commute instead of caught in long traffic jams commuting to and fro workplace.they also like to have active social life in residences with bars, gyms or dance studios.
