Traditional Chinese culture values will honour to those who have contributed to their nations and the peoples welfare.its not about food per se but rememberance of our ancestors sacrifice so ancestor worship is integral part of the Qing Ming festival when tomb sweeping and prayers are done by descendents and the ancestors choose a good feng shuai burial site to bestow wealth and blessing to descendents.its a very Confucian value seen in the movie of South korean exhuma when the burial site with bad feng shuai cause bad luck to descendants and The Japanese even have special altar n ancestral tablets for stillborn babies and aborted foetus so that they can reincarnate to a better place. Today is Dragon boat festival and we feast on zhong zi or rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves to commemorate the death of a loyal Chinese minister who commited suicide by jumping into the river when the country was ruined by invaders because the emperor didnt heed his advice so to honour him the villagers threw dumplings into the river so the fish would not eat his corpse. l like the savoury zhong zi , drink chinese tea and ate lychees for breakfast. last nite i watched tear jerker Thai movie How to make millions before grandma dies.its is superbly casted with a grandma dying of cancer,children fighting over inheriting her assets and a grandson torn between love and gratitude for his grandma and a hope for getting her old property.i cried my eyes out
