Losing to the thinking machines

I regretted donating my book the Emotion  Machine by Marvin Minsky one of the pioneers

Of AI to the public library coz when i wanted to cross reference with this book on thinking machines,i felt helpless to remember the facts n details of the emotion machines, a sign of memory loss

Puns are a challenge  for computers coz they show the inexactness of language,we use the same word often in different contexts to mean different things.innuendos, double meaning n word play would confuse a ptogram but Deep QA using natural language processing was able to find  the structured information contained in each jeopardy clue.it defeated the world champion of jeopardy Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter in a competition.Jennings commented in the end"I for one welcome our new robot overlords".

If AI causes technological unemployment,it also creates new jobs from esports, game designers, digital marketing and social influencers.look at it as out with the old,in with the new.Used as a tool it makes our jobs easier as a AI database like  Legal Zoom n Wevorce can assist lawyers n prosecutors to search for case studies faster than a legal assistant and it seems a AI medical program can give diagnosis as accurately as a medical physician.when the US medical interview tested it,it could interpret scans and symptoms with a 67%accuracy when the passing mark for human MD is 60%.so im impressed when Hong Kong school educators use Chat G P to teach students to refine critical thinking skills for subjects like history or language learning as its just a tool.of course thetes always a risk of plagiarism but trained educators who monitor students closely will know their capabilities and progress.in 2014,a venture capital firm in Hong Kong appointed as  a director an AI program.its roles was to weigh up financial and business decisions regarding investments in biotechnology and tegenerative medicine.

As AI and its related field of robotics advances, automation is catching up in industries like cooking, flying waiter drones or self driving trucks and aeroplanes.

The new focus on human traits like creativity  and social intelligence will become more important as AI gets smarter.harvard professor of economics  say the artisan economy will prevail.it means the return of products that arent machine driven and homogenous but rely on human creativity and interaction.these artisan jobs are high touch meaning they rely on personal contact.

An artisanal dementia coach full of new ideas to keep clients engaged can flourish in a market with a growing elderly population or an inspirational human personal trainer going up against smart wearable devices or human taxi drivers with insider knowledge of great places to visit n eat against self driving cars and empathetic lawyers going up against services like Wevorce.

Google developted Deep Dteam,an image generating neural network.it drew quirky objects like long fleshy arms that hung from dumbbells coz no picture of a dumbbell is complete without a muscular weightlifter there to lift them.so Deep Dream can generate  surrealistic landscapes of Salvador Dali or HP Lovecraft.

Marvin Minsky  in 1994 wrote an essay on Will robots inherit the earth?,divided deaths into 2 separate fields, the breakdown of the body and the breakdown of the mind.Bodies he suggested were the relatively easy part.Minds were more complicated.

"As a species,we seemed to have reached a plateau in our intellectual development.theres no sign that we're getting smarter. Was Einstein a better scientist than Newton or Archimedes?.

Has any playwright in recent years topped Shakespeare or Euripedes?we've learned a lot in 2,000 years yet much ancient wisdom seem sound.we still dont know how to deal with conflicts between individual goals and global interests.we are so bad at making important decision that whenever we can,we leave to chance what we are unsure about.

How true this seems looking at humans  propensity to self destruct on climate change or nuclear warfare.

Minsky predicted eventually we will entirely replace our brains using bio-technology.delivered from the limitations of biology we will be able to decide on the length of our lives with the option of immortality. Thats a scary idea if Hitler could live forever.
