Within the 4 seas, all men are brothers

today i went to browse at a flea market in Amcorp Mall. Its a place for collectors as ive picked up vintage deco from a wrought iron birds on the tree of life candelabra made in England to an old opium silver peacock smoke pipe from hilltribe of Thailand.the banner outside declared where old is gold but i wonder how many young people can relate to the history of a piece of junk or a treasure depending on your taste. i love the vibes of vintage and antique pieces as they are one of a kind momento of our past.lured by the collections,i bought a vintage fiction on the stories written by Lu Tsun,a renowned novelist known for his anti feudal and anti imperialist worldview.the first edition was printed by the peking foreign language press in the year i was born.even the illustrations in black and white are nostalgic. then there were fine books on accounts of life ln Malaya that i can only appteciate from afar as i cant afford them.wow a book by isabella bird on her travels to the golden chersonnese as Old name of Malaya.costly at rm250.the lyrics and music scores of P Ramlees old songs, another book recording the development of the french society in south east asia, the history of the nanyang by wang gung wu and even old Malay folktales. I bought a hardcover interior design book on oriental modernism for rm20.then i went to Book xcess and fpund a birthday present for Jun.its a biography of his childhood idol whom he used to worship.i know he will love it. maybe its time to buy Amartya sens book on violence and national identity. This Indian Nobel prize winner for economics was educated at the school founded by Rabindranath Tagore and this has shaped his multi cultural open minded worldview. our education system stifles critical thinking as any ideas opposed to the official state sanctioned narrative is labelled unpatriotic so its dangerous when Orwellian thought
police are set up to censor diverse views.unity comes from respecting others points of views so its ok to agree to disagree.
