Stereotype

 In patriarchai society of China,having a daughter is seen as a loss inducing commodity.

The status of a woman depended on whether she gave birth to a son or daughter.Feeling like unwanted goods or wairan or an outsider as a daughter will marry off to outsiders ,thus it gave women a lower status than men.

This inevitable stereotype causes gender inequality and discrimination.the identity of a female depended on her ability to get a man to marry her and her ability to sacrifice her life for her family.But modern education freed women from needing a man to financially support her.As Mao said women hold up half the sky and their choice to take up a career rather than be tied down by marriage saw singlehood as a choice for educated woman.
