Words of truth

Self conquest is the best of all conquests Yo sahassam sahassena sangame manuse jine ekan ca jeyya m attanam sa ve sangamajuttama "though one should conquer a million men in the battle field, yet he.indeed,is the noblest victor who has conquered himself. the story of the rich girl who married a thief or kundala kesi is the teaching given. Kundala kesi was the daughter of a rich man from rajagaha.she led a secluded life but one day,she came across a thief about to be executed for his crimes.she fell in love at first sight, she refused to eat and preferred to die unless she could have him her parents had to bribe the kings officer to secure his freedom and they married her off to him.although she loved her hubby very much, her hubby being a serial thief.was only attracted to her wealth. one day,he persuaded her to wear all her jewellery and took her to the top of a mountain, saying he wanted to make offering s to the spirit of the mountain for saving his life when he was in danger.he revealed his true colours at the peak.she pleaded with him to take her jewels but spare her life but to no avail.kundala realised that if she did not get rid of her hubby, there would be no way of escape for her.she felt she must be cautious and crafty.so she told her hubby that as they would be together for only a few moment, she wanted to pay respect to him for the last time.so saying, while going round the man,she pushed him off the mountain from behind. the deva residing at the top of the mountain witnessed the event and applauded the woman."wisdom is not always confined to men,a woman, too,is wise and shows it now and then. after this, she left the life of a householder and left all her jewels hanging on a tree.she became a female wandering ascetic and mastered all knowledge within a short time.her teachers told her to go out and find someone who could answer all her questions, then she should become his pupil.Kundala Kesi travelled thro out the country.she met many famous men but none could answer all her questions. finally she came to Savatthi.she stuck a branch on a mound of earth to issue a challenge to anyone.venerable sariputta took up her challenge.she asked him many questions and Sariputta answered them all.when his turn came to question her,he asked her only one question. "What is the meaning of One?" she couldnt answerso she asked sariputta to teach her the answer to the question.sariputta asked her to become a bhikkuni first.so she became a bhikkuni.she practised diligently what sariputta taught her and within a few days, she attained Arahanthood. the bhikkus who witnessed it asked the Buddha,"could it be possible for bhikkuni Kundala Kesi to become an Arahant after listening to the dhamma only a little?" the Buddha replied,Bhikkus, dont judge the dhamma as little or much.one sentence of the dhamma is better than a hundred sentences that are meaningless." the question :There is only ONE thing in this world which living beings need to survive and that is FOOD another story on victory breeds hatred.when buddha taught the bhikkus,in one who conquers, enmity and hatred increases, one who is defeated suffers pain and distress.happily the peaceful live, giving up victory and defeat.let me cook FOOD and id talk about King Kosala in next post and how he suffered depression after defeat in three battles
